So came across this article about Linux developers being able to develop Linux applications through windows 10.
----------------------------------------http://www.zdnet.com/article/ubuntu-not-linux-on-windows-how-it-works/ Too bad that this won't mean improvements of WU crunching like running BOINC on an actual Linux OS, but who knows, maybe in the future both OSs might have relatively the same performance when crunching WU for WCG. |

Yeah right, they promised [whilst on mind expanding substances maybe], to go for easy portability < > Windows 10, then this

What I wish Microsoft did is to make it easier to use other OS on your machine. I know that there are guides about how to do it and most of the time they are easier (ex: dual booting Ubuntu).
----------------------------------------In Windows 7 I felt it was a lot easier to do this. Now with UEFI its not impossible, but unless you are a hardcode Linux user you would not want to jump. I had tried using Ubuntu on my Win7 machine and felt that it was a lot easier to use. I have not done the same with my new Win10 laptop. What sucks about this is that it seems to be a pretty one sided deal. Windows gets to use Linux apps, but Microsoft does not wish to contribute to WINE so that some of its apps work on Linux system. I think one commentor put it best is that they don't want the Linux developers that are using Windows to completely switch over to Linux, but if you are the type of person that develops applications to be used on Linux then I am sure you are pretty set in thinking of which OS you would prefer. |

How to get started with Ubuntu and Bash on Windows 10
The newest Windows 10 Fast Ring release, 14316, includes Ubuntu and Bash. It may not have a Linux foundation, but this is close as a Windows PC has ever come to also being a Linux computer. http://www.zdnet.com/article/ubuntu-and-bash-arrive-on-windows-10/ |
