GPU performance

Please post you average unit finish time for HCC, in order to get some idea about GPU performance in this project. Somehow, I have a hunch that AMD has a performance advantage over nVidia...

GTX660Ti : around 4 minutes

Re: GPU performance with HCC-GPU v 6.56

Think y'all need to report the kernel time [the time on the GPU], as a power-card in a meek computer could give substantial false impressions. A quick hit go-oogle: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTEyNTI .

Re: GPU performance

HD 7770: 2 minutes 50 seconds total elapsed time. And this is probably limited somewhat by my CPU, an E8400 Core2 Duo at 3.0 GHz.

Kernel time: 68.5 seconds (average over 10 work units)

ATI does have a performance advantage because they have much better OpenCL support which is the platform the GPU tasks run on.

Here's some times for you.

5830 4-5+ minutes depending on setup( some OCd, some not. 32 or 64 bit) 95% load
5850 3.5 minutes @800MHz 96% load
5870 2.5-2.75 minutes @875 MHz. 95% load
7970 70-75 seconds. @ 1000 Mhz. I'm trying to put an app_info file together because I think this card can run more that 1 at a time. Only 78% load with 1 task running.
Hope this helps.

I don't think it is just about better OpenCL support (which it is), but it is also that nVidia has limited computational speed (double precision) in consumer GTX cards in order to promote much more expensive Tesla cards for computing...

Will trade my GTX660ti for 7950 these days for sure!

That's true but this app only requires SP AFAIK.
