It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Well it was yesterday anyway I've been asleep for the last 12 hours

Take your Windows crunching box to the Microsoft update site and download all of those patches and fixes - you will need to restart sad

Then we can brave the Internet for another month

Keep 'em crunching

Dave

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Actually, first you need to be brave to do the monthly WAU, boot and hope it comes back up biggrin At my former employer they'd first run the updates on a testbed, see how it responds, then push out an image of what they want us to have.......just 15000 machines could go belly up. As a matter of rule i have it download, but set the eclectic, where the antispyware and OE parts are blocked. Killed my machine twice....which is now in hog heaven since last trusted re-image.

Errata: Just saw on a dutch news-site that a total of 21 holes for Windows+Office combined are attempted to be plugged applause d oh

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Hi Sekerob

Likewise at my former employee M&S

I usually upgrade one of the boxes I have just for crunching just to make sure and then my main PC and finally the webserver.

Then and only then do I arrive on the boards suggesting anyone else have a go.

Only slight hiccup this time on 2 machines (7 in total) the installs downloaded but didn't install, a second attempt and they installed nicely

No problems to report

Dave

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Though my desk is solid wood, i forgot to touch it prior to running the WAU and selecting the pieces i wanted. Low and behold after boot, wireless mouse, keyboard, mediapad would nolonger talk to my machine, then the firewall popped up asking approval for the WGA process load (which i will not permanently approve), and i could not.....hit the boot button again and again eventually getting that screen to allow selection of a previous valid config, keyboard/mouse still dead....digging out hardwired keyboard/mouse....so here i am again, pre WAU June 06.....i'll read the news and see what surfaces in MSFT c.r.a.p. and what fixes and workarounds are required, which MSFT will fix with July 'even bigger mega' update.

Like you said earlier Windows is just a big Swiss cheese. I think they carve plugs from good parts of the cheese and knock them into the holes. Holes get shuffled around but never get eliminated. Shuffle, shuffle, like 3 card monty.

devilish Welcome to the dark side! Imagine the power to be able to royally tick off such a large part of humanity! Over and over no less.

Truth is one of the main reasons the Dark One ended up where they did is so all the drool could drain into the nearby sound. biggrin

Largethunder it's my vocation in life

I'll get a mac one day and it will all become clear

Meanwhile I still haven't managed to install that beta copy of Vista

(don't use Nero to burn the iso is step one on the road to Vista wisdom. I've fallen again at step 2 - I'll let you know)

Mr Gates must be one of the most cussed men in history

At my funeral I want everyone to say that I was the one who cussed The Most Cussed One faster, better and farther than anyone else. Then for sure there will be a smile on my face as they close the lid on my casket.
